There is magic in the night if you open up your senses. Listen. Watch.
When I first saw the northern lights it was by chance, a mid-night "call of nature" that took me outside my sister's little Alaska cabin to pee in the snow. When I looked up the sky was a giant piano, its translucent green keys moving up and down. I swear I heard the aurora borealis before I saw it.
Since then I've yet to again hear the northern lights. But I have returned with my camera in hopes of capturing images of an ever-changing skycape that dances in colors and delights any viewer willing to forgo sleep for magic.
