Hospitality Committee

Every day, no fail, Bawana's children would greet us when we arrived for work and accompany us back to our bus at the end of our house building day. These girls are just a handful of our daily "welcoming committee".

What started out as a picture of a fellow volunteer with some of the children broadened to include much more of the neighborhood residents.

Hasina (right) with friends. Each time I would bring up my camera to photograph Hasina she would assume a serious expression. This time my antics to get her to smile had the results I wanted from all three.

High Tech in Bawana

These two ladies check out the image I took of them with their cell phone. Cell phones with cameras were a common possession by those we encountered in Bawana.

As soon as I took out my camera the doorway filled with children curious about the gal with the camera and, as usual, posed for a group photo.

There was no shyness in many of the children who looked into the eye of my camera. And some, like this girl, looked at me with unflappable poise.

A toddler's sister tries cheering him up but to no avail. We tried for a group photo with these two and one of our volunteers but the little one wailed even louder.

I don't recall seeing this woman all that often while I was in Bawana, but like many nearby residents, she watched us work with curiousity.

There was so much joy in many of the children I encountered in Bawana. Now and then I would witness a child in dispair but more often than not, the children, like these girls laughed and played and found much entertainment in watching us work.
